Legendary guitarist's instruments to be sold at Christie's in January 2025
The world of music memorabilia is abuzz with the announcement that over 130 items from the late Jeff Beck's personal collection are slated for auction at Christie's in London on January 22, 2025. This remarkable assemblage includes 90 guitars and various amplifiers, collectively valued at more than £1 million.
Among the standout pieces is Beck's 1954 Gibson Les Paul, famously known as the "Oxblood" guitar. This instrument, which Beck acquired in Memphis in 1972, became a staple of his performances throughout the 1970s. It notably graced the cover of his 1975 album "Blow by Blow." Christie's has estimated its value between £350,000 and £500,000.
Another highlight is the "Tele-Gib," a unique hybrid of a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson, valued between £100,000 and £150,000. This guitar was prominently featured on the track "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" from the "Blow by Blow" album.
Beck's widow, Sandra Beck, expressed her sentiments about the auction, stating, "These guitars were his great love and after almost two years of his passing it's time to part with them as Jeff wished." She added, "I hope the future guitarists who acquire these items are able to move closer to the genius who played them."
Christie's will showcase highlights from the collection in Los Angeles from December 4-6, 2024. The full collection will be on display at Christie's London headquarters from January 15 until the auction date.
Jeff Beck, who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 78, was celebrated for his innovative guitar techniques and contributions to rock, jazz, and blues. His influence on the music world remains profound, and this auction offers a unique opportunity for collectors and fans to own a piece of his storied legacy.
