Elton John Among Nominees on 97th Oscars Best Original Song Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the shortlist for the Best Original Song category for the 97th Academy Awards, narrowing down the competition from 89 eligible songs to 15 finalists.
Notable entries include "Winter Coat" from the film Blitz, performed by Saoirse Ronan and written by Steve McQueen, Taura Stinson, and Nicholas Britell. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are in the running with "Compress/Repress" from Challengers, a film for which they are also shortlisted in the Best Original Score category.
Other prominent names on the list are Elton John and Brandi Carlile with "Never Too Late" from Elton John: Never Too Late, and Lin-Manuel Miranda with "Tell Me It’s You" from Mufasa: The Lion King. Additionally, Pharrell Williams is represented with "Piece By Piece" from the film of the same name, and Maren Morris is part of the team behind "Kiss the Sky" from The Wild Robot.
Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap also made the cut with "Sick In The Head" from their self-titled film, and Camille has two songs shortlisted from Emilia Pérez: "El Mal" and "Mi Camino".
